Ex 4.3.2 Strap Line

Select an appropriate magazine, research its format and size and mock up all three of the advertisement images complete with strap lines. The bus shelter advertisement will go on the end of the shelter using the Adshel format. (You can Google images of these if you’re not sure what’s required.) For this part of the exercise, you’re obviously not expected to work to full size, but your image must be large enough for your tutor to see how it might work in context. 


Publication I chose to analyse was The Mail on Sunday 'You Magazine'.  This magazine is primarily aimed at older women who would read the Mail on Sunday / Daily Mail and contains life style and fashion articles and receipes aimed at that demographic age group.

Magazine size is 23 x 28.5 cms or 9" x 11 1/4"

Number of pages - 74 plus front and back cover = 76.  Publications tend to be in multiples of 4 as this is the way the print machines are set up -  19 x 4 = 76

No of pages of adverts - 20

No of editorial pages - 37

No of advertorials pages  - 19

Advertorial is when a paper or magazine writes up an item or product tied into a written editorial.






AdShel format ss usually portrait orientation sized 1800mm x 1200mm or 6 sheet print size.  There is no idea for costs as AsShel won't deal direct with students.  To give an idea two colour, ie, black and white/red white is a lot cheaper than full colour.
